Cgunta was discharged and released into the care of the N/a’an ku se Wildlife Sanctuary, after doctors declared that he no longer needs medical supervision 24/7.

The N/a’an ku se team has been instrumental in fighting to save his life, since the tragic accident which claimed the lives of three family members in a bush fire in mid-September.

Since then, the critical medical care Cgunta required has been covered by more than a 1000 individual donations to the N/a’an ku se Wildlife Sanctuary, which took it upon themselves to collect the necessary funds to pay for Cgunta’s expensive treatment.

Dr Rudie and Marlice van Vuuren, founders of the N/a’ an ku se Wildlife Foundation, have played a critical role since then in demanding attention to the issue.

To date, the fundraising has managed to take in close to N$650 000, literally saving the life of Cgunta.

Here is a video taken by N/a’an ku se during his visit to his home in the north of Namibia recently, where he visited his wife, family and friends. It is believed that Cgunta was deeply saddened by the fact that he was so far from his family, and the trip home – in which he was flown by Marlice and Rudi – boosted him emotionally.

Now, as he slowly gathers his strength, he will be treated as an outpatient and his progressed monitored on a regular basis.
