The good news from the Namibia weather service is that for the next few days rain is in, and heat is out.

Meteorologist Simon Dirkse said that the chances for rainfall in the north and north-western parts of Namibia are around 40 % from today until Wednesday.

Wet, and much cooler conditions are also expected in the central parts of Namibia as of today until Wednesday.

Although the chances are calculated to hover around 30 % for rain in the central parts of Namibia, Simon said in weather terms, this “is not really very bad”.

The recent high temperatures – which caused air conditioners and fans to be cranked up high – will be less intense in the coming days. But only in the northern, north-western and central parts, Simon warned.

In the northern areas it is estimated that the thermometer will drop to below 30 degrees on average, and in the central parts – where the temperatures have hovered at about 35 degrees or more, they will now drop to just above 30.

In the southern parts, no rain is on the cards according to weather models – just a few clouds here and there – and the heat will remain high at more than 35 degrees in general for the next few days.

On Thursday, the rain will migrate to the north-eastern parts of the country, leaving the rest of Namibia high, dry and hot again.
