The Fish Deli in Swakopmund is synonymous not only with its range of homemade products, all free from colourants, preservatives and the dreaded MSG. It also supplies fresh and pickled fish to the nation.
At the pick-a-deli section, buy yourself some creamed herring; sour pickled herring; red-herring, seafood, sushi or prawn salad; curried fish; and rollmops. Then there’s the fresh fish display with a selection of hake, kingklip, sole, monkfish, kabeljou, and angelfish, as well as tuna in soya and sesame marinade, prawn sosaties in a red curry basting, and calamari stir fry and homemade sauce.
Is your mouth watering yet? Get yourself to the Fish Deli at 29 Sam Nujoma Avenue for your fish fix. The Fish Deli also hosts its own smokery and fish-processing area at the back of the shop. “We do everything ourselves, making sure it’s 100% fresh and clean,” boasts co-owner Martin Wittneben. And the bonus? The Deli also does sushi, with an option for the sushi chef to show off his skills in the privacy of your home. Contact number 064 46 2979.
SALT FOR your safari
With salt sourced from the purest Atlantic waters, dried under the Namibian sun, and mixed with the finest spices, the Safari Salt Collection is a unique kitchen souvenir. Co-creator Katja Wittneben explains: “We started with the idea of salt and spices due to many tourists coming to our shop – the Fish Deli in Swakopmund – asking for local spices and salt from Namibia.”
So Katja and husband Martin kicked into innovation gear and created these nifty spice pots. Martin’s sister Claudia invented the cute guineafowl-branded labels, each focussing on the spice it represents. Infuse your spice for life at the Fish Deli!
