Forever on the road to going greener, Namibia’s one and only programme for assessing and rewarding sustainability in tourism establishments, Eco Awards Namibia, recently awarded 17 accommodation establishments for their achievements during 2012.

Establishments are awarded flowers according to their level of ‘greenness’, with five flowers being the highest achievement.

In 2012 the Canyon Village of the Gondwana Collection portfolio was the only establishment to be awarded five flowers. The criteria for assessment are sub-divided into seven categories: conservation, water, waste and sewage disposal, energy, social responsibility, staff welfare and development, and sustainable and appropriate construction and landscaping.

Eco Awards Namibia is sponsored by Nedbank’s Social Investment Fund.
