The Meteorogolical Service Division of Namibia released the following notice:

April 2013 was observably dry at all places monitored, with Walvis Bay being the only exception in terms of the performance of the month as a whole relative to normal.

Of the 23 places monitored, only 4 recorded some rainfall, albeit quite light. The highest daily figure was only 6.4 mm recorded at Rundu on the 2nd of April. The relative performance as compared to the normal rainfall for April is illustrated in Figure 1 below.

With the exception of Walvis Bay and Gobabeb that received heavier falls in the last two days of March, the seasonal cumulative rainfall performance was below normal for most places. This was greatly so in the southern parts of the country where the rainfall season practically failed, with only a short spell of rain from the 30th to the 31st of March.   The rainfall progression charts from specified places shows that cumulative rainfall performance was near normal in the north-east but with increasing deficiencies both southwards and westwards.

Evidently, the 2012/2013 rainy season in Namibia is among the driest on record.

Outlook for  23 – 27 May 2013:

Interior: It will be partly cloudy and warm in the north and north east until 24th thereafter it will sunny. The central and south will be partly cloudy except the 25th and 26th.

Coast: The coast will be partly cloudy throughout the period.
