This week Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) – a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group of Companies – announced the 2014 Windhoek Lager Ambassador winners in the seven categories.

The keynote address was delivered by Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Tjekero Tweya on behalf of the Prime Minister Dr. Hage Geingob.

The 2014 Ambassador search had been launched in September 2013 and was running for the fourth consecutive year since its original inception in 2010.
More than 2050 nominations were received and judges spent an average of 220 days assisting NBL in identifying the three finalists in the different categories.

Voting took place in June 2014 and more than 3000 votes were received by the Namibian public via Facebook and the sms line. The final voting process far exceeded the goals of NBL and the company expressed its delight with the public’s participation.

The winners in the various categories of the 2014 Windhoek Lager Ambassador initiative are:

  • Education – HELENA NAMENE;
  • Community – RACHEL MUINJO;
  • Sport – JOHANNES NAMBALA;
  • Health, Science and Technology – INGRID MUHENYE;
  • Business – MICHAEL AMUSHELELO;
  • Conservation – VIKTORIA KEDING
  • and the Arts – LISCHEN KHACHAS.

All finalists received a certificate while the overall winners were handed an additional gift last night as well as a N$ 10 000 prize for themselves and an additional N$ 10 000 for a charity of their choice.
Rosemary Shippiki, Global Marketing Manager, Namibia Breweries Limited said that in the search for the coveted Windhoek Lager Ambassadors, NBL was looking for people who make a difference, people with a vision and the commitment to turn it into reality and people who don’t compromise and remain true to who they are. “To put it simply – we look for selfless Namibians who dedicate themselves to the advancement of our motherland, Namibia.”

She added: “At O&L it is our signed-up responsibility to create a future and enhance the lives of Namibians in everyday activities. That’s why we are celebrating these outstanding achievements. May these Ambassadors’ legacies live on for all of us to be inspired to adopt the values of world-class Namibians.”
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Tjekero Tweya congratulated the finalists and said: “You have made a significant difference in your communities and the country through your determination and by keeping your dreams and hopes alive – thereby inspiring others to reach for their goals.”

He added that the country needed initiatives such as the Windhoek Lager Ambassador to remind all that every citizen can make a contribution.

He advised that O&L’s purpose of creating a future and enhancing life tied in with the ultimate aim of the Namibian Government. “In Vision 2030 and all our national development plans – to achieve a happy, healthy, well-educated and employed nation – is our ultimate goal. We may be small as a nation but we have both the natural and human resources to become a boutique country with an array of niche markets”, the Deputy Minister concluded.
