Namibia is an adventure destination to be explored and conquered all year round. This year the wide range of adventures on offer will be highlighted at the annual Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS) scheduled to be held in the coastal resort of Swakopmund from 26 to 31 October, hosted by the Adventure Travel Trade Association.
We cornered a few adventure activity operators and picked their brains to find out what they regarded as the best options to leave adventure-hungry travellers with a smile of contentment. This is what Daniela Jansen van Vuuren, co-owner, Catamaran Charters, had to say:
Why do you think Namibia is the ultimate adventure destination?
Walvis Bay may be a harbour town to most, but to us, it’s a gigantic aquarium! We may not be able to compete with other parts of the world in having colourful little fish and tropical warm waters, but we offer remarkable marine life all year round – whales in winter, sunfish (mola mola) and leatherback turtles in summer, and a wet handshake from Sakkie the seal all year round… Oh, and don’t forget that you can meet our own Air Namibia mascots, the eastern white pelican – these endearing birds love to waddle between the guests – and our dolphins jumping and playing next to the catamarans.
What is the best place in Namibia to live the adventure?
Walvis Bay. This is where our adventure happens.
From which countries do your most enthusiastic visitors hail?
Our visitors come from all over the world, and most of them fall into the ‘most enthusiastic’ category. They are Italian, English, Russian, German, Asian, and, of course, our local Namibians!
What is your advice for people who have never been here, as in where should they go and how should they plan their first Namibian adventure?
Don’t forget to pre-book your Dolphin & Seal Cruise with us, before coming to the coast!
On a scale of one to ten – one being a walk on the beach, and 10 climbing Kilimanjaro – where would you rate what you can do in Namibia?
This is the fantastic thing about our country: Namibia doesn’t offer only a walk on the beach, a climb up the Brandberg, or a hike in the Fish River Canyon; Namibia offer adventures ranging from level 1 to 10! Whether you’re interested in relaxing by the pool in the Etosha National Park, soaking up the sun while lazily watching the wildlife roam by; tackling the Brandberg; or joining us aboard our catamarans to view the rich beauty of what the Atlantic Ocean’s species call their home – Namibia has it all!
