The Namibian Airports Company (NAC) is planning on investing millions of Dollars into upgrading the Hosea Kutako International Airport into an airport city.

The long-term plan with the upgrade is to position the airport as a key air travel center. Turning the airport into a ‘city’ would mean that hotels and shopping establishments would be integrated into the new design.

The plan is to reposition Hosea Kutako as a world-class airport and service provider. Not only will Hosea Kutako be upgraded, but in order for the airport to become the core of air travel in Namibia all of the airports in Namibia need to be renovated to a suitable high standard.

The capacity of the airport is currently inadequate to offer flights from larger airlines. Once Hosea Kutako has been upgraded the hope is to attract more visitors to the country and serve larger airplanes.

Regional airports will be advanced so that they can facilitate the transport of cargo and passengers.

The NAC’s goal is to improve their income by 10% per year and this plan is the way to get there.

Consultation forums with key partners are said to proceed as from March onward.
