Having achieved a kind of cult status, and frequented by a good bunch of die-hard fans of fresh, Windhoek’s Green Market (or Bio-Markt as it’s called by the German population) is the place to be first thing on a Saturday morning.
Offering organic vegetables, hand-prepared meat produce, a selection of Indian-inspired delicacies, locally cultivated flowers, freshly baked bread, milk products, nuts, jams, health and skin products, and even art and crafts made from natural materials, this market has something for everyone.
If the variety overwhelms you, fear not, because there’s a small café on site for resting the legs, and enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee and a brötchen, if not cake. To buy the best of the best, take yourself there at 08:00. Stalls pack up at 12:00. You will find the Green Market at the Stephanus Church in Uhland Street (opposite the Wilde Eend Nursery).
