Situated in the Naukluft Mountains, 40 km from the entrance to the Namib-Naukluft Park, Capricorn Restcamp is an ideal stopover on the way between Windhoek and Sossusvlei. The rest camp is ideally situated for hiking or 4×4 excursions into the park and day visits to Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon, accessible 136 km further along the C14.

Capricorn Restcamp offers accommodation in bungalows built in an ecologically friendly fashion. Each two-bed, en-suite bungalow has a private porch, a braai area and parking next to the bungalow.  Camping sites are shaded with netting, each with a private fireplace, benches, tables and communal ablutions. Dinner, cold lunches and braai packs can be pre-arranged. There is, of course, a swimming pool.

Owner and chef, Karsten Sodmann, uses fresh vegetables and herbs to prepare meals in a solar oven. Fresh products such as honey, oranges and jam from neighbouring farms are also provided to their guests. Water is pumped from a windmill and solar power is used for electricity and warm water.

The Naukluft area is rich in interesting indigenous plant and bird species and guests can enjoy this diversity from the sundowner spot overlooking the Naukluft Mountains, or by taking a hike along the botanical hiking trail. With clear night skies, far from towns, this area is perfect for stargazing.

Karsten recently opened a travel shop for guests, neighbours and the local community.
