Finally, after more than 5 years, the Hardap Resort, situated at Hardap Dam outside of Mariental, is expected to open its doors to the public once again. The re-opening is believed to take place before the end of 2015.

The resort closed in June 2010 for some much needed repairs and upgrades to take place. Initially it was thought that the work would only take 18 months, however, during the first few months after closing no restoration on the resort took place. The resort simply became more neglected as the months passed by.

According to NWR the resort is expected to re-open on 1 December 2015. Currently access to the resort is reserved at N$10 for Namibians and N$10 per vehicle. The park is open to visitors that want to spend time at the dam or go fishing. Fees for overnight stays are not available yet.

The swimming pool at the resort has been filled up and the pumps are currently being tested to make sure everything is perfect for when the first guests arrive. Furniture for the rooms and restaurant have been delivered as well.

The resort now boasts 5 VIP bungalows, 15 family chalets and 30 bush chalets. Many camping and caravan spots are available on site, each with its own access to electricity. The family chalets are self-catering. There are also 4 blocks with rooms, where 10 people can be accommodated per block.

You’ll also find a modern restaurant with a view of the dam. The swimming pool is situated close to the restaurant.

Every year the dam plays host to a national club – and two international angling championships. Namibian, South African and Zimbabwean anglers come to take part in the competitions and the opening of the resort will make it much more convenient experience for the competitors.
