The Namibian Press Agency (Nampa) this week reported that Namibia is ready to host an Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS) “never to be forgotten”.

Reportedly Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta, said this during a recent seminar in Windhoek.

Shifeta told Nampa that the ATWS’ importance should not be underestimated.

This year the ATWS will celebrate its 10th anniversary. The occasion also marks the first time that the event is being held in Africa.

Nampa reported that Shifeta boasted of Namibia’s conservation record saying “conservation here is a global success story that echoes across the continents, and is seen as an example of how, by commitment and dedication and community empowerment, a nation and its biodiversity base can be transformed, leading to the greatest wildlife recovery story ever told”.

Shifeta furthermore told Nampa that at the ATWS, being held in October, Namibia and other delegates will focus on how to make adventure tourism a profitable enterprise, while at the same time keeping it “a sustainable and planet-friendly business with a focus on the empowerment of people, protection of the environment and the sustainable use of natural resources”.
